Abstract

The article discusses the clinical findings and kidney morphology in chronic kidney disease of unknown cause (CKDu) in India. CKDu is a type of kidney disease that has been increasing worldwide, and it is believed that chronic dehydration from agricultural work in severe heat exposure may be a common risk factor. The study conducted kidney biopsies on 13 CKDu patients in India and found that their kidney biopsy findings were consistent with CKDu cases from other countries, showing focal glomerular collapse, periglomerular fibrosis, and tubulointerstitial scarring. The article also suggests that individuals with fewer nephrons may be more susceptible to CKDu when exposed to chronic dehydration. Additionally, there is a potential association between high temperature, dehydration, and the risk of CKDu across generations. [Extracted from the article]
