Abstract

Without an active principle, the placebo or nocebo -from the Latin "I would please"- causes a beneficial or harmful effect through psychological, psychopathological, and psychophysiological mechanisms. Numerous American, Canadian, and European studies over the last twenty years have revived the question of placebo and its effects, particularly in the field of analgesia. Research has also shown that when the subject knows that he or she is being given a placebo, the effects continue to work, thus demonstrating that incorporation, introjection, and relationship are decisive in the therapeutic effect. The relationship between doctor and patient is necessary for its own curative virtues, like any other therapeutic lever. This is exactly what the placebo and its effects show us, which should rightly be taught as any other tool and therapeutic lever in a pain clinic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
