Abstract

[Display omitted] • Mechanism of wet coating process for primary particles was concluded. • Process parameter for coating process was introduced. • Nano-coating of complex metal oxide for primary particles was described. • Application of Core-shell particles was introduced. Synthesis of hybrid particles with core–shell structure by a coating on primary particles has attracted attention in various research fields. Therefore, various techniques have been proposed for coating particles using dry, wet, and vapor processes. This review paper specifically examines wet processing among these technologies and summarizes the currently proposed coating technologies. Additionally, wet coating has employed many techniques that use homogeneous nucleation using spray technique, but the use of chemical reactions and heterogeneous nucleation are crucially important for achieving a thinner and more homogeneous coating. Moreover, in recent years, nanoscale coating techniques have become necessary for improving battery material properties and for other applications. Therefore, this review article particularly describes wet coating based on chemical reactions and heterogeneous nucleation. This review paper also presents a summary of the applications of such core–shell particles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
