Abstract

When a student fails to attend school during the school year, it is seen as school dropout. In the event that he does not enroll to continue his studies in the following year, it is considered as school dropout. This work intends to evaluate how the variables approval rate, failure rate, average number of students per class, average hours of class (daily), percentage of teaching functions with higher education and teaching effort influence the school dropout rate in basic education in the Southeast and Northeast of Brazil. The main results show that the variables percentage of teaching functions, approval rate, average class hours, failure rate influence school dropout in the two regions addressed. The variable percentage of teaching effort interferes with school dropout in basic education in the Northeast. Only the average variable of students per class does not intervene in the dropout rate.
