Abstract

Recovery housing, with guidelines issued recently by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) (see https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adaw.32517 and https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adaw.33879), is not really open for people with opioid use disorder (OUD) who need to take medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), namely methadone or buprenorphine, according to a report from Georgetown University's (GU) Addiction and Public Policy Initiative of the O'Neill Institute at Georgetown Law. And this policy of not allowing medications, which exists in many of the country's 18,000 recovery homes, is a violation of federal civil rights laws, noted the report, authored by Regina LaBelle, director of the Addiction and Public Policy Initiative at the O'Neill Institute of Georgetown Law.
