Abstract

A study published in the journal Intensive Care Medicine provides insights into the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) after major surgery. The study, which included over 10,000 patients from around the world, found that approximately 1 in 5 patients developed AKI within the first three days after surgery. The incidence of AKI varied by region, with the highest rates in North America and the lowest rates in Africa. The study also identified modifiable risk factors for AKI, including the use of vasopressors and aminoglycosides. The findings highlight the need for interventions to prevent and manage postoperative AKI. [Extracted from the article]
