Abstract

The most common form of housing for laying hens in Germany is still floor housing, with around 60 percent of hens being kept this way. However, the proportion has slightly decreased, while free-range and organic farming have increased. Free-range farming has grown by 1 percent, while organic farming has grown by just under 2 percent. Nowadays, almost every seventh laying hen is kept according to organic guidelines. Group housing is now banned, but there is still a transitional period for existing facilities until 2025. Currently, five percent of laying hens are still kept in small groups, while their share was more than twice as large in 2015. The statistics include companies with at least 3000 housing places for laying hens. [Extracted from the article]
