Abstract

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a technique used in equine pathology to highlight antigens expressed by various cells, including pathogens and tumor cells. IHC has been particularly useful in diagnosing equine herpesviral encephalomyelopathy, equine sarcoids, and equine coronavirus. It can also be used to identify specific bacterial antigens and parasites, although it is less commonly used for these purposes. In addition, IHC is valuable in determining the origin and characteristics of tumors, such as epithelial or mesenchymal tumors, and can help diagnose lymphomas and other lymphoid neoplasms. While IHC has its limitations, it has become an essential tool in equine pathology research. [Extracted from the article]
