Abstract

This article discusses an innovative technique for lung isolation in pediatric patients, which can be particularly useful in resource-limited settings. The technique involves using a combination of a rigid bronchoscope and a bougie as a substitute for a flexible bronchoscope. The authors describe a case in which this technique was successfully used in a 5-year-old patient undergoing thoracic surgery. However, they note that accurately predicting the length of the endotracheal tube (ETT) can be challenging, and confirmatory methods such as auscultation and lung ultrasound are necessary. The authors emphasize the importance of tailoring lung isolation techniques to the patient's profile and surgical requirements, while making the best use of available resources.
