Abstract

Blepharoptosis, a common eyelid disorder that can cause visual impairment, has often been overlooked in clinical practice due to limited treatment options. However, noninvasive treatments such as mechanical aids and eye drops are now available, providing optometrists with an opportunity to improve the quality of life for patients with ptosis. Acquired ptosis can be caused by various health conditions, but age-related changes in eyelid tonicity are the most common cause. By paying attention to signs and symptoms of ptosis and using tools like retinal imaging, optometrists can effectively manage this condition. One topical treatment, oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 0.1%, has been approved by the FDA and has shown positive results in improving visual function. Other options include mechanical aids like scleral lenses. By diagnosing and treating ptosis, eye care practitioners can help patients improve their appearance and visual function, leading to an improved quality of life. [Extracted from the article]
