Abstract

Composite materials have been widely used in civil aviation aircraft, but due to low electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity, a wide range of ablation damage occurs after lightning strikes, threatening the operation safety of civil aviation aircraft. In order to make composite materials more safely used in civil aviation aircraft, the lightning strike protection characteristics of commonly used curved composite materials in civil aviation aircraft are studied. The electrothermal coupled finite element analysis model of lightning strike damage of curved composite materials was established, and the influence of different factors on the lightning strike damage performance of curved laminates was studied. It is found that the ablation damage area of the curved composite laminate is increased by 1. 51 times under the action of the peak lightning current of 50 kA due to the influence of thermal conductivity, and the depth expands to the sixth layer, and the damage area of the smallest layer increases by 10. 67 times. In addition, the peak value of the lightning strike current and the curved angle have a greater impact on the lightning strike damage results, while the aspect ratio, the direction of fiber, and the thickness are less affected by the potential and thermal conductivity of the curved laminate.
