Abstract

A case report published in Reactions Weekly describes a man in his 80s who experienced masking of acquired haemophilia A while being treated with apixaban for deep vein thrombosis. The man initially presented with left hip pain after a fall and was found to have a haematoma in the left gluteus medius. His prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time were prolonged, which was initially attributed to apixaban. However, further investigation revealed that he had acquired haemophilia A, which had been masked by the use of apixaban. The report highlights the importance of considering acquired haemophilia A as a potential cause of prolonged clotting times in patients receiving apixaban. [Extracted from the article]
