Abstract

The article offers information on brown adipose tissue (BAT) and its role in energy expenditure through uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). Topics include the renewed interest in BAT in adult humans, primarily assessed through 18F-fluoro-deoxyglucose (18FDG) PET imaging, and its potential relevance to obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and cardiometabolic diseases. The article posits that, unlike rodents, human BAT may not be sufficient to combat cardiometabolic diseases.
