Abstract
- We show how phase-sensitive manipulation of a probe field transmission spectrum can be used to find the precise position of an atom. Our method is based on the controlled superposition of two standing wave fields that move in opposite directions. This causes a change in the probe field transmission spectrum. We can control the number and position of localized peaks in the transmission spectrum by changing the relative phase between the two standing waves. We also show that the shift of localized peaks is greatly influenced by the direction of the wave vector in standing wave fields. Our proposed approach provides us with an efficient method of regulating the precise locations of an atom by using phase shift and direction of the wave vector associated with the standing wave fields. This proposal may have potential applications in nano-lithography, advanced laser cooling technology, and quantum information processing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
