Abstract

This article discusses concerns and suggestions regarding a study on suicidal ideation and associated risk factors among COVID-19 patients in Wuhan, China. The authors express support for the study but raise some issues with certain details. They suggest that economic problems such as unemployment should be considered as significant factors contributing to increased suicidal ideation and behavior. They also propose that other social factors, such as the stress experienced by caregivers, may play a role in the development of suicidal thoughts. The authors recommend including more information on these aspects to make the results more comprehensive. They also mention the potential overestimation of findings due to the exclusion of patients with serious cognitive impairment and suggest conducting subgroup analyses for different age groups and genders. Additionally, they suggest including information on the increased risk of suicidal ideation and mortality among individuals with diabetes. The authors caution that the study's findings should be interpreted cautiously until these issues are clarified. [Extracted from the article]
