Abstract

Inelastic interactions between a small, intense dipole and a weak, neutral monopole in two-dimensional flows are analysed. The neutral vortex has vanishing exterior potential flow and the interactions involve the rotational flow of the vortices. It is shown that dipoles of small-size but large-amplitude, relative to the neutral vortex, may cross the vortex and scatter while leave the vortex stable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
