Abstract
- The article presents a comparative study of archaeology in contemporary photography and multi-media art. Relics and disjecta, conflating the material and the corporeal, offer a poetic of decomposition and expulsion; an archaeology of the broken, the maimed and the partially visible held together by faith in the decipherability of the manipulated object and the forensic trace. The highly edited anthology of visual fragments helps to underline the inescapable and knowing banality of archaeological tropes in contemporary photography and mixed media installations that enact an exploration of the already explored, a recovery of the already found, a rearrangement of the already reconstructed.
