Abstract
- Significance Statement: The Arabidopsis PHO1 is a phosphate (Pi) exporter involved in root‐to‐shoot Pi translocation, but its steady‐state localization at the Golgi and trans‐Golgi network raises questions about its mode of action. This study shows that PHO1 actually reaches the plasma membrane but is constitutively internalized via clathrin‐mediated endocytosis (CME), and that PM‐stabilized PHO1 has reduced root‐to‐shoot Pi transfer activity, indicating that CME contributes to the optimal Pi export activity of PHO1.
