Abstract

In the 1930s, with the intensification of the Japanese invasion of China, the survival and development of the Chinese nation faced great challenges. Under the great threat of national subjugation, people generally formed an imagination of a national community, which was mainly reflected in two aspects: on the one hand, individuals with lofty ideals are expected to contribute to the final victory of the war of resistance through their selfless dedication; on the other hand, in the face of Japanese imperialist aggression, the interests, goals, and nationalist values of all people were consistent, and the entire nation was united into a close community. But in fact, there was a great gap between the real individual and the community in the context of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and it was hard to really go to a union. From this perspective, Ding Ling's writings during the Yan'an Period (1935-1948) - When I was in Xia Village and In the Hospital - are the true restoration of the relationship between individuals and the community in the context of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression. They are the direct writing of the wartime emotional experiences, which indirectly showed the hope and concern of most people for the victory of the difficult and lasting war of resistance against Japanese aggression and anti-colonial struggle.
