Abstract
- The document is a response to comments made by Rice on a recent paper about the Ottfjället Dyke Swarm and its implications for the timing of Neoproterozoic glaciation in Scandinavia. The authors acknowledge Rice's discussion of the available data for Baltica and the need for further research on the subject. They provide a simplified overview of the geodynamic development of the Scandinavian Neoproterozoic rock record, which includes the deposition of continental and marine sediments, a sabkha-carbonate environment, and glaciation. They also mention the presence of carbonate units in Scandinavia, which differ from the typical capping carbonate units found in other Neoproterozoic glaciogenic successions. The authors acknowledge the ambiguities in interpreting the published data and anticipate that improved analytical methods will refine interpretations and enhance our understanding of the region's geology. They maintain their interpretation that the Lillfjället glacial deposits are older than 596.3 ± 1.5 Ma. [Extracted from the article]
