Abstract

The article talks about the foundational project of the Bachelor's Degree in Information Sciences and Techniques at the Universidad Iberoamericana, written by José Sánchez Villaseñor in the 1950s. The author, Walter Richter, interviewed several Mexican academics and concluded that the original project had faded away, but still persisted. Richter pointed out problems such as the lack of budget, the lack of definition of the professional field, the lack of prepared teachers, and the dependence on foreign research. Despite these challenges, Richter considered the work being done in Mexico encouraging. The article also mentions the importance of communication and its university teaching in the current context of mediatization and new media ecology, highlighting the responsibility of university programs in interpreting and intervening in this communication system.
