This article reports that the conference "Focus on Microscopy 2005" took place in Jena, Germany from 20-23 March 2005 and was held on the campus of the Friedrich Schiller University. It was a meeting in the series of interdisciplinary conferences on three-dimensional image acquisition and three-dimensional image processing in microscopy. Topics included confocal microscopy, multi-photon excitation microscopy and related techniques as well as a wide range of applications in biology; medicine and materials science. There were sessions on the theory of image formation, instrumentation and image analysis, novel imaging techniques and high speed in vivo imaging.
