Abstract

Isolated fallopian tube torsion is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain in adolescent females. It is known to be a surgical emergency as it may lead to ischemia of the fallopian tube which can result in necrosis, infertility or infection. Presenting symptoms and radiographic findings are vague making diagnosis difficult, often requiring direct visualization in the operating room to make the definitive diagnosis. There has been an increase in this diagnosis at our institution in the previous year prompting compilation of cases and a literature review. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
