Abstract

This article is a response to a study that investigated the relationship between epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) and acute kidney injury (AKI) in pediatric patients with life-threatening hemorrhage. The authors of the response identified several limitations in the study's analytical methods and interpretation. They noted that the study was not specifically designed or adequately powered to assess the incidence of AKI, and the small sample sizes made it impractical to directly compare EACA and tranexamic acid (TXA) with respect to AKI. The authors also raised concerns about the inclusion of heterogeneous populations and the potential for selection bias and residual confounding. They concluded that further research with larger sample sizes and adjustments for relevant confounders is needed to accurately assess the risks and benefits of EACA and TXA in this patient population.
