Abstract

Jared Golden, a Democratic U.S. representative from Maine, has changed his stance on assault-style weapons after a mass shooting in Lewiston. Golden, a former Marine, previously viewed the AR-15 as a weapon for self-defense but now supports a ban on assault rifles. He apologized to the people of Lewiston and called on Congress to take action. Golden still supports gun rights but believes that assault-style weapons have no place outside of warfare. His change of position may have an impact on the gun-control debate in Congress. [Extracted from the article]
