Abstract

Randall Atkins, a former Wall Street banker, purchased an old coal mine in Wyoming for $2 million twelve years ago. Recently, government researchers discovered that the mine contains a potentially valuable deposit of rare-earth elements, which are in high demand for electric vehicles and offshore wind turbines. The deposit could be worth around $37 billion. Atkins's company, Ramaco Resources, is now working to extract and analyze larger samples from the mine, with the goal of becoming the first new rare-earths mine in the U.S. since 1952. The discovery is significant as the U.S. seeks to secure rare-earth supplies and reduce reliance on China. [Extracted from the article]
