Abstract

The primary objective of this research study is to assess the impact of sunlight exposure, packaging type, and packaging time on the weight loss and germination of the spiny yam (Dioscórea rotundata). Post-harvest storage of this tuber yields limited profits when exporting. A factorial experimental design is conducted under a completely randomized arrangement of 4x3x8, with 3 replications. The results show that two of the three types of packaging examined, kerosene coating and low-density packaging with polyethylene bags, show similarities in terms of lower weight loss, with values of up to 1.9% of the total weight. In terms of germination, the best results are obtained using kerosene coating, having delays in the germination process for 52 storage days. It is concluded that the least weight loss is achieved when D. rotundata is packaged using low-density polymers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
