Abstract

The book "The world of rural childhood in Patagonia. A history of inequality" by Enrique Hugo Masés analyzes the inequality in rural childhood in Argentine Patagonia during the 19th and 20th centuries. The author uses historical sources to examine the living conditions of children, their relationship with work, health, and education. It highlights that childhood in the rural world was brief and difficult, as children were forced to work from an early age and endured difficult living conditions. Additionally, they suffered from lack of protection and abandonment both inside and outside their homes. It concludes that rural childhood was ephemeral, insecure, and demanding.
