Abstract

The article "Photo Albums, Rickshaw Rides, Climate Protests: Perspectives for Intergenerational Collaboration in Society and Church" by Ulrich Feeser-Lichterfeld deals with the discourse on generations and the opportunities for inter- and intragenerational learning processes, as well as cross-generational "Caring Communities". The article emphasizes the importance of intergenerational dialogues and encounters between different age groups to promote understanding and community. Examples of this are the shared viewing of photo albums, rickshaw rides, and protests against climate policy. The website https://www.generationendialog.de/ provides vivid examples of intergenerational interactions. According to the 18th Shell Youth Study from 2019, there is a great interest and longing for cross-generational contact and exchange. The study shows similarities among 12- to 25-year-olds in Germany, such as concern for the ecological future, mutual respect, and a sense of justice. The German Aging Survey (DEAS) during the Covid-19 pandemic shows no declining willingness for intergenerational solidarity, but rather an intensification of intergenerational contact due to experiences of loneliness. It is emphasized that the dialogue between generations is important not only in society but also in the church community. The importance of intra- and intergenerational learning is pointed out, as well as how different generational influences can affect intergenerational communication. The role of the church as a pastoral community that cares for the well-being of all generations is also emphasized. The article deals with the topic of intergenerational collaboration in church communities. It is emphasized that such communities provide space and resonance to care for people in need of support. Particularly, the discussed "Caring Communities" offer opportunities for intergenerational collaboration. It is emphasized that the church should appreciate the diversity of generations and avoid one-sidedness. The church's competence in diversity is questioned, and it is pointed out that caring for people in concrete needs should be connected to the Jesuan admonition "Do not worry...".
