Abstract

Bosworth's book is part of a growing body of literature focused on "environmental populism", which can be understood as the study of populism (and/or populists) regarding environmental issues. In I Pipeline Populism i , Kai Bosworth presents a fascinating study of US grassroots resistance movements fighting the construction of a series of oil-carrying pipelines in the mid-2010s using ethnographic methods. Even if Bosworth does not fully propose populism as a solution, there is not enough engagement with the very real possibility of (his understanding of) populism turning - or revealing itself as - undemocratic.
