Abstract

The article discusses the rise in antisemitic incidents in Europe following the Israel-Hamas war. Jews in Europe, who have already experienced centuries of pogroms and the Holocaust, now face a combination of far-right antisemitism and growing antagonism from both the far left and Europe's Muslim populations. The UK, France, and Germany have all recorded a significant increase in antisemitic incidents, including threats, attacks, and vandalism. Many European Jews are now questioning their safety and considering emigrating, but even Israel is no longer seen as a guaranteed safe haven. The article also highlights the prejudice faced by Muslims in Europe and rejects the idea that Muslims hold more antisemitic attitudes than the general public. The historical trauma among European Jews is emphasized, as well as the closer family ties to Israel and the higher risk of harassment faced by Orthodox Jews. The article concludes by discussing the lack of support from non-Jews following the attacks and the feeling among some Jews that they are on their own. [Extracted from the article]
