Abstract

The recent mass shootings in Maine, which resulted in the deaths of 18 people and the injury of 13 others, could have potentially been prevented. The ex-wife and son of the gunman, Robert Card, had warned deputies about his deteriorating mental health and access to firearms. Deputies from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Department had visited Card's residence in September after receiving information about a threat he made to "shoot up the drill center" where his Army reserve unit is based. Despite efforts to locate Card, he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year. [Extracted from the article]
