Abstract
- Conceptually polyamorous and resolute in its genre bending, this article weaves together fashion, visual art, and reflexivity. The warp and weft of the resulting Afroqueer tapestry are iconic fashion designer Patrick Kelly and multi-media visual and performance artist Derrick Adams, but I thread my own fashion fascination story through an unfurling of Adams' deconstructed meditation on the patterns of Kelly's legacy. Unraveling the sewn lessons of ancestry, artistry and NYC Subway asociality, this itinerant commute investigates the various stations where African American fashion, art, and queerness (in its most capacious sense) connect. Rush to make this train, fish the matte black crochet hooks and iridescent black yarn out of your Telfar bag, and please stand clear the closing doors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
