Abstract
- That of COVID-19 has prompted the search for effective drugs that limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Several clinical trials have sought to evaluate the therapeutic use of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) against the infection caused by the virus. The objective of this article was to carry out a systematic review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of using HCQ, in studies with different settings, for the treatment of COVID-19. The method used was PRISMA, through the search for randomized clinical trials, published between 2020 and 2022, in journals indexed in the MEDLINE database, in English, resulting in 13 papers selected for analysis. Randomized multicenter clinical trials were reviewed, corresponding to 14,838 patients, whose age range varied between 32 and 65 years. The test used for the detection of SARS-Cov-2 was the gold standard RT-PCR. The studies presented up to 3 study arms, namely: B1- control group; B2- treatment with HCQ alone and B3- treatment with HCQ in association with other drugs. Of the 13 studies, only 1 showed a significant association with the use of hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19, however this was for the worsening of the clinical picture. Thus, it is concluded that HCQ did not reveal a significant reduction in mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
