Abstract

Adsorption behavior of nuclides in natural barrier media of nuclear waste disposal sites is essential for safe disposal of nuclear waste. Taking a common mineral in clay rock of illite as the research object, the adsorption behavior of illite on Sr was explored through static adsorption experiments. The adsorption reaction mechanism of illite on Sr was explored by combining adsorption kinetics model and various characterization analysis methods. The results show that the adsorption behavior of illite on Sr was divided into two stages: rapid adsorption (t≤60 min) and slow adsorption to equilibrium (60 min≤t≤240 min), which conformed to the quasi-firstorder and quasi-second-order kinetic models. In the rapid adsorption stage, physical adsorption is the main mechanism, mainly for liquid film diffusion. In the slow adsorption stage, chemical adsorption is the main mechanism. The cation exchange reaction between Ca2+, Mg2+ and Sr and the complex reaction between CO2-3, —OH and Sr are the main adsorption mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
