Abstract
- Of course, Lawrence and Rhys (unlike Brontë and Moore) might conceivably have come across psychoanalytic ideas about masochism (though Mitchell provides no compelling evidence of them doing so). Mitchell leans on all these twentieth-century iterations of the concept of masochism, "ahistorically" reading it back onto works of Victorian fiction (33). , by Jennifer Mitchell; pp. x + 216.
