Abstract

The aim was to understand how the workers of a public hospital perceive the quality of life at work (QLW). The research used Walton's model (1973) to measure the QLW of 225 workers in a hospital in the Midwestern Region of Brazil. The results show that, in only three of Walton's eight criteria, the workers' satisfaction is superior to dissatisfaction. The highest percentages of dissatisfaction concern participation in results, workload, fatigue caused by work, incentives offered for qualification, respect for workers' rights, influence of work on the possibility of personal leisure, and human resources policy. On the other hand, the highest percentages of satisfaction are related to the importance of the activity performed, the work responsibility received, the relationship with the boss and colleagues, and pride in the work performed. The research contributed to highlight critical points of the QWL and showed elements that need organizational attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
