Abstract

McCall and Stanglin continue their partnership which began with Jacob Arminius, Theologian of Grace (New York: Oxford University Press, 2012). The present book presents a non-polemical 'historical introduction to the Protestant theologies that have been known as "Arminian". (3) The book begins with a quick summary of Arminius' own context and views, with the rest of the book consisting of chapters on how Arminian distinctives developed and appeared in various groups and locations during the following centuries: in the seventeenth century with the Dutch Remonstrants and the Anglo-Arminians of Britain; in the eighteenth century with John Wesley and his influence in England and North America; and in the nineteenth-century Wesleyan and Holiness Movements.
