Abstract

The main shaping methods using in ceramic art are hand shaping, wheel throwing and casting. The method of forming with 3D printers, which emerged depending on the development of CAD / CAM technologies, has also been integrated into art practice in recent years. In addition to all these shaping methods, today artists try to see beyond the forming limitations of the material and develop their own personal methods. In this direction, artists sometimes develop additional methods to the shaping methods of the material by using various additives, sometimes they create a machine-made art practice by creating their own devices. The sole focus of all these application options is undoubtedly the artist's desire to recreate. Today, the boundaries between the concepts of artist, inventor, engineer and designer have become almost visible. As a result of this, an art practice that determines its own production process and method has emerged. In the research, technical and formal evaluations of these methods, which are not yet accepted as a shaping classification in the literature, but developed specifically for artists, were made. In addition, the potential and sustainability of these new forms of use are discussed. Accordingly, it has been concluded that alternative shaping methods used in ceramic art can be classified as: shaping methods that occur with additives added to clay, shaping of preformed organic materials by spinning, pouring or dipping, shaping with low technology devices and shaping by deformation.
