Abstract
- Meteorology and climate data are used as important data source in energy-related project studies. The use of available energy resources for any given region and the effects of these resources on the environment and human health should be considered. In this context, the priority use of new and renewable energy sources is extremely important in terms of their positive effects on carbon emissions and global warming. In this respect, it is necessary to determine the renewable energy potentials for Ardahan province, which can be an alternative to fossil-based and especially foreigndependent energy sources. In addition, meteorology and climate data should be analyzed in detail in order to raise awareness and utilize resources effectively. In this study, data are provided to determine the renewable energy potential such as wind and solar for Ardahan province, especially based on meteorological and climate data. Ardahan is among the provinces with the lowest average temperature in Turkey, with an annual average temperature of 3.80 °C. According to the long-term average of the province, the total daily sunshine duration is 5.67 hours/day, and there is a significant important solar energy potential. Ardahan, which has hydroelectric power plants of various sizes within its borders, has an average of 136 days of precipitation per year, with an annual precipitation of 554.82 kg/m². In some districts of the province, there are various geothermal energy sources in the form of hot springs and mineral waters, and the soil temperature at a depth of 100 cm throughout the province is not below 0 °C in any month of the year.
