Abstract

Psalm 1 is a poem drawing on a number of "prose particles," which strongly inform its antithetical poetics and worldview. One dimension of this literary construction is the overlooked chiastic "sonant parallelism" between rěšā'îm ("wicked ones") and the relative "prose particle" 'ăšer ("that, which"). Psalm 1's "prose particles" are further suggestive of the possibility that the psalm originated as a written work, per-haps produced by Levitical scribes as a tôrâ-introduction to the Psalter.
