Abstract

The article discusses the dire conditions in Lebanon's prisons, which have been exacerbated by the country's economic crisis. The economic meltdown, which has caused contraction of the gross domestic product (GDP), has led to severe shortages of food and medical supplies in prisons. Inflation and budget cuts have made it difficult for prisoners' families to provide additional support, and many detainees are technically not guilty, leading to a growing backlog of pre-trial detainees.
