Abstract
- The topology optimization technique of additive manufacturing can be used to significantly reduce the weight of various components. Current research is intended to minimize the weight of gear using techniques of topology optimization and lattice structure method. The solid gear design is created with Creo 3D parametric design software, as well as the structural analysis is carried out with ANSYS FEA simulation software. The use of the topology optimization technique aided to reduce the weight of gear by nearly 50%. The possible region of mass reduction is obtained from the analysis which is found to be the region underneath the gear. The mass reduction increased equivalent stress and deformation but the stresses obtained for topologically optimized design are found to be well within the safe limit and hence can be used for different engineering applications.
