The selection of the novel by Gumersindo Pacheco, María Virginia está de vacaciones, published in 2010 (hereinafter María Virginia), represents an eloquent example in Cuban youth literature that projects the crisis of gender relations under hegemonic masculinity, governed by heteronormative rules. The relationship between the representations of the authoritarian ideological discourse with those of machismo (denomination of male hegemony in Cuba) can be studied in the novel María Virginia, following a synchronous design methodology with the study of the literary resources used by the author in metafiction.
