Abstract

Primary cutaneous melanoma is frequently diagnosed when the tumour thickness (Breslow) is <= 1 mm and is termed thin invasive melanoma. Recent advances in the systemic treatment of advanced melanoma based on immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies have led to successful trials in patients diagnosed with clinically high-risk primary melanomas.[10] In a significant proportion of patients with high-risk primary melanoma their disease will not recur if left untreated; therefore, they are at risk of overtreatment and exposure to toxicities. Liquid biopsies provide a promising, noninvasive avenue for a more accurate diagnosis and prognosis of melanoma via detection of circulating biomarkers. [Extracted from the article]
