MISÉRIA DE CONDIÇÃO E MISÉRIA DE POSIÇÃO.

The article discusses some of the lessons left by the book The Weight of the world (BOURDIEU, 1999) in the light of the findings of a research interview conducted with a Catholic priest, in which he discusses the participation of women in the social movements he led: for housing, education, health in the peripheries of a large Brazilian metropolis. The research team combined semi-structured interviews with the analysis of statistical series. The priest's testimony is presented almost in full in this article. Next, we show the partial results of a Principal Component Analysis, based on public statistics (POPULATION CENSUS, IBGE, 2012). The interview and the statistical analysis allow us to work on two different levels the notions of "misery of condition" and "misery of position", proposed in The Misery of the World.
