Abstract

'his work presents Catholic arguments ofa philosophical nature about the inadmissibility ofeuthanasia as a human option. First, the limitation of bioethics and the natural sciences as the only authority that can make normative decisions about euthanasia is shown. Next, the timeliness and relevance of natural law is explained, which exists implicitly in several contemporary social institutions, and is also advocated by some currents ofphilosophical and ethical thought, revitalizing the debate on bioethics. The subject of suffering is approached from two aspects: the impossibility ofacontingent and rational creature not to suflbr, and the proposal oftheconcept ofsu/76·itive, fbrmulated by Plinio Corrda de Oliveira, as a novel perspective fur the bioethical dialogue on euthanasia.
