Abstract
- In this study, the problems and issues that arise in a real-time power system are discussed. An Automatic Voltage Regulator(AVR) maintains the magnitude of the terminal voltage of a synchronous generator at a reference point. Therefore, a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is employed to boost the dynamic response of this AVR in the Power System. The PID controller must be accurately tuned in order to acquire the optimal values of the gainsk_p,k_i,k_dfor the AVR to function properly. For optimizing the PID controller gain parameters, the paper examines optimization approaches such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and also a soft computing technique Fuzzy Logic. A comparison is being done in order to determine which of the strategies is more effective in optimizing specific parameters. Future applications are also being considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
