Abstract

This research paper involves making a smart stick for those who are blind or visually impaired. Walking along the street is dangerous for visually impaired persons because they have trouble identifying obstacles in front of them. This smart stick includes a feature that helps visually impaired to recognize their surroundings. A water sensor detects surfaces that are wet or dry, whereas an infrared sensor detects any additional obstructions in front of the user. Warning messages are delivered, when obstructions or bodies of water are discovered in front of the person. This stick identifies all obstacles within a 70-centimeter radius and displays a pleasant message, allowing the blind to go twice as fast as normal since they are safe. This smart stick is lightweight, has a quick response time, and uses very little energy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
