Abstract

On stainless steel (SSt 316L) substrates, a comparison of two coating processes for hydroxyapatite (HA) powder, thermal spraying and electrophoretic deposition (EPD), was performd. The effect of the method on the composition and phases of HA and on the substrates has been studied. The starting HA powder, and scraped coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It was noted from the characterization that electrophoretic deposition is better in terms of phase stability of the HA. While the substrate coated by thermal spraying were characterized by optical microscope, microhardness, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX), and X-ray diffraction.
